Microsoft PowerApp for Global 500 Pharmaceutical Company
Overview
A global pharmaceutical and life science company that needed to turn a manual process into a digital and automated workflow for the end user. They wanted to save the user time, track approvals of the request, and have the ability to view archived requests. This was accomplished through the use of Microsoft Power Apps.
Problem Statement
Digitize a manual submission process to collect and route proposals for strategic transactions in various regions of operation by improving the user experience in the capture, review, and approval of the process.
UX Process
This was a quick six-week engagement at 20 hours per week to work with the Client, Subject Matter Experts, Business Analyst/SCRUM Master, and Developer. Meeting several times a week with the Client to refine product requirements and interview the SMEs. The goal of this project was to digitize a manual submission process. Giving the submitor the ability to see where their request is at in the process. The Client did not have a pattern or design library to leverage for this application, so I leaned into Microsoft Power Apps libraries to create icons, buttons, and components for the application.

Working quickly to create high-fidelity designs to share with the Client during review sessions was a must. The tight timeline did not allow for much of any user research and validation of the application. Using Figma to iterate on the design allowed for easy collaboration between the Client, Developer, and myself.
I also created several personas based on information collected during interviews with the SMEs. As the team was building out the application, I was able to create a user journey map and identify future opportunities to enhance the user experience. These items have been added to the project backlog. Overall, the project was a success and delivered on time to the client.
Roles and Responsibilities
This was a quick six-week engagement at 20 hours per week to work with the Client, Subject Matter Experts, Business Analyst/SCRUM Master, and Developer. The client did not have a pattern or design library to leverage for this application, so I leaned into Microsoft PowerApp libraries to create icons, buttons, and components for the application. I worked quickly to create 8 high-fidelity wireframes for development and facilitated several design review sessions with the client.
UX Activities and Deliverables

Client Feedback
"The Product Owner mentioned that folks have begun to hear about the new STAR app in the works (because of 2 demos she has scheduled) and are surprised to hear it will be ready so soon (internal Go Live in one month). There is traction right now with the stakeholders and peers as she has verbalized how user-friendly/intuitive the app is, and how good it looks. Some folks have begun to inquire about user training and she has responded to them that the app is so intuitive that training will likely not be required for users of the app."
