Microsoft PowerApp for Global 500 Pharmaceutical Company
Overview
A global pharmaceutical and life science company that needed to turn a manual process into a digital and automated workflow for the end user. By creating transparency in the process and access to real-time data. Through the use of the design thinking process, we were able to understand users' needs to create a solution that met business requirements and worked within the technical constraints.
Problem Statement
The company currently utilizes a manual process to collect and generate reports for critical RATIO Portfolio projects. In addition to this process being time-consuming, its manual nature can cause inconsistencies in the data and reporting.
UX Process
This was a quick six-week engagement at 20 hours per week to work with the client, subject matter experts, Business Analyst, SCRUM Master, Solutions Architect, and Developer. Working in two-week sprints, I worked in conjunction with the BA to create the stakeholder interview outline. Once that was ready, we then met with each stakeholder one-on-one to understand the goals and objectives of the project and how the SMEs engage with the current process. Upon completion of the interviews, I then pulled notes and conducted affinity mapping to draw conclusions to understand what the users needed the Power App to do.
Upon completion of the affinity mapping, I was able to identify and create three personas for the application. I then created a scenario for the primary persona to generate a future state user journey map that would help the team determine what the application could look like. Working in conjunction with the BA, Solutions Architect, and Developer, we walked through the future state journey map to understand the solution we would put forth. As we started to create the backend of the application it was determined that the landing page would not be needed and we worked to create a main navigation that would carry throughout all of the pages within the application.
I then began to iterate on the wireframes for the Power App. Throughout the process, I would check in with the team to ensure that what I was designing was feasible within the constraints of MS Power Apps. Once the wireframes were refined with the team, I then facilitated a design review session with the client. In this session, I walked them through the primary persona, future state journey map, and each of the wireframes. I explained what actions the user could take and how they could progress through the application to input the data that was required for the monthly report. There were a few minor tweaks to the wireframes, but overall, the client was excited about the results.
